It is interesting how over such a short period of time the Brazilian pousada has grown in popularity and sophistication. Previously the majority of pousadas were pretty simple B&Bs and guesthouses to stay at with prices to match. It was the destination people chose and travellers would stay in pousadas because that was the only accommodation available in smaller towns and beach resorts. Over the last 10 years, however, design and comfort have come to the fore and many pousadas have become a destination in themselves. Prices have risen but there are still many “boutique” pousadas which can be found for under 100GBP for 2 including breakfast.
